About the club
Auckland North Shore Friendship Force was founded in 1992 and currently has 32 members.
About the region
North Shore, where our club is located, is on the northern side of the Waitemata Harbour and is part of greater Auckland city (population 1.5 million), which lies on a narrow isthmus between the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. Auckland is known as the “City of Sails” for the numerous sailing and recreational activities on our beautiful harbour. Appearing to guard the harbour and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf is the majestic Rangitoto Island, a dormant volcano, one of some 50 in the Auckland region. Members live close to numerous safe and sandy beaches around the harbour and gulf, and surf beaches are an hour away on the rugged bush clad west coast. Regional parks and historic sites are nearby. Climate: average summer (December, January, February) temperatures 23 deg C. We suggest you avoid the colder winter months of June, July and August.
Our club members welcome ambassadors with a luncheon or potluck dinner. The programme, which is varied and interesting, may include a harbour cruise or island visit, bush and coastal walks, visits to regional parks and historic sites, a trip to a volcanic cone with panoramic view of the city, places of interest in the central city, a Maori cultural experience, a visit to a vineyard and BBQ's or picnics. In addition, non-hosting members offer to day host or will host an informal get-together in their homes. A farewell dinner rounds off the week.
Friendship Force Auckland North Shore can also offer an optional day trip to Rotorua for the group where ambassadors can experience the special attractions of this World famous tourist destination. They will enjoy the thermal wonderland, experience Maori culture and visit other special attractions. The day tour includes the bus trip from Auckland and return, morning tea and lunch, entry to two/three activities and the costs are approximately $230NZ (dependent on the number of ambassadors on the incoming journey).
